IMATS 2009 DAY 2

Imats2009 Day 2

So I started my day early, headed to Second Cup got myself a large chocolate mint latte and took a cab down to the Heritage Centre since Norma Hill-Patton is scheduled to speak at 10:30 am and Iam still at Union (downtown TO bus/train station).

To my surprise the venue is empty, well not empty but only a few people I see browsing the vendors, even the lineup at MUFE is only a few people. I quickly walk to the back where the main stage is set up. I sit myself right in the 1st row. no more than 20 people. I feel bad for Norma.

At around 10:40am Norma Hill-Patton sits down with Emmy Award-winning make-up artist and Makeup Artist Magazine creator Michael Key. Mr. Key ask Norma question regarding her schooling at the BBC, films and of course her experience in Twilight: New Moon.

Norma Hill-Patton BIO

Norma Hill-Patton first started working with makeup in retail before being invited to act as resident makeup artist for Orlane Cosmetics in Harrods Beauty Salon in London, England. While abroad, she studied makeup for film and television at the BBC, climbing through the ranks in hairstyling, makeup, and prosthetics, eventually becoming the BBC's youngest Makeup Supervisor/Designer.

After 11 years of experience on BBC series such as I, Claudius, Anna Karenina, Moll Flanders, and The Cleopatras, Norma left to work as a freelance makeup artist/designer on commercials, music videos, photo stills, and feature films including Out of Africa, Cool Runnings, Double Jeopardy, Insomnia, and X-Men 2.

Norma has worked as a personal hair and makeup artist for such celebrities as Ellen Barkin, Dyan Cannon, Dawn French, Larry Henry, and recently, Halle Berry. Her latest work can be seen in the feature films The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and The A-Team.

Norma Hill-Patton also is part of the advisory board at The Vancouver Film School

I listen in awe of her lifestory and come to the conclusion that Ms. Hill-Patton is extraordinary.

Next is the greet and meet/autograph/picture time with Norma, so I rushed to the Makeup Artist Magazine booth, cause as I get up I noticed the crowd had gotten way bigger.

So since day 1 at IMATS was shop till Ande drops ( and boy did I shop!!) Day 2 was a day to network, socialize, and meet new people. So I ventured into the vendors and learned products. I met Koren, Elessa, and a few other Gurus from the Youtube world.
Overall my experience at IMATS was alright, I expected more. The Makeup show in prior years had more classes, more vendors and free goodies.

Lets hope IMATS 2010 will be better!
